Heat and cool your home while reducing your carbon emissions. Ground-source heat pumps (GSHPs), also known as home geothermal, use the earth's constant underground temperature to draw heat to warm your home more efficiently, which can reduce heating costs by up to 50 per cent. In the summer, it reverses the cycle to keep your home cool and comfortable.

Using a participating contractor, Ontario homeowners who live in a detached home, townhouse or semi are able to take part. The rebate is also available to homeowners of new custom home builds. If you are a landlord, you must obtain permission from your tenants.


What You Get

Receive up to $20,000 in rebates for an ENERGY STAR® Certified GSHP which can save you up to 50 per cent on heating costs. Rebates are available for three models:

Horizontal closed-loop heat pump:

Receive $2,000/loop ton up to $15,000

If your home is located on sufficient land this heat pump may be the most cost-effective for you. Pipes are laid in trenches, which requires a minimum 600 feet of ¾” or 1” HDPE pipe per ton or 500 feet of 1-¼” HDPE pipe per ton.

Pond closed-loop heat pump:

Receive $2,000/loop ton up to $15,000

Have a property with a pond? If it’s the right size and depth this heat pump may be the most cost-effective option for you. Pipes are laid at least eight feet below the pond surface and connect to your home.

 


Vertical closed-loop heat pump:

Receive $3,000/loop ton up to $20,000

This heat pump is most often used where there is less space available or soil is too shallow or difficult to trench. Pipes require minimum 200 feet of borehole and 400 feet of ¾” or 1” HDPE pipe per ton or 180 feet of borehole and 360 feet of 1-¼” HDPE pipe per ton.

Already have a heat pump and looking to update? Receive up to $4,500 to replace or repair your ground-source heat pump. Systems must be at least 20 years old.

Receive up to $750/ton of heat pump when replacing an existing ground source heat pump system or $750/loop ton for ground loop repair.
